Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine, a Philadelphia native was born and raised there. Her mother Pam was a backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. At 5 years old, she joined Philadelphia International Records. old, her dad landed a position as a curator of Philadelphia's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family moved into the mansion's historical site. In 2005, she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts as singer-music major. Sullivan performed as the contralto in the children's choir and later sang in the adult chorus. Sullivan received little exposure to secular music. She relates that she was just 11 years old when a person wanted her to sing as a soloist at church. However, she was not fully ready. "I had the privilege of being able to win a McDonald's competition, which offered kids from the major cities the chance to sing "Accept what God Allows'. The audience responded well." Stevie Wonder sang her part for the birthday party of her grandson at 13. Sullivan was signed initially to Jive Records at the age fifteen. As a teenager she signed with Jive Records. She recorded an entire album, but it didn't get released. Sullivan was later dropped off the record label. The singer had a great working partnership to Missy Elliott. Elliott produced numerous tracks for her and tracks, such as "Backstabbers" the track that was written by Timbaland.
